Graduation Coming Soon

Well over the weekend my family and I went to my cousin’s graduation.  He was graduating from Chinle High School. This year we have three out of our family members graduating. The three of us were all at my cousin’s graduation so we took a picture together.

My cousin Thurman Brown was the first one to graduate. We never really see each other so it was going to be great to see him once again. I remember when we were little we would hang out and we grew up together for a while. When we were little we watched Pokémon, Digimon, and Yu-gi-oh.  We had the TV shows toys, cards, and videogames. We stayed up late for the episodes because the shows were very interesting. When we went to school in Gallup, NM we had a blast. At recess, we had a group of girls always chasing us. We never really knew why they chased us, but all we knew was that we had to run away from them.

My other cousin Carolynn Begay is going to be graduating the same day as me. So I will not be able to watch her graduate which is really sad. We do see each other pretty often. We would always see each other almost every weekend because I used to do rodeos and her brother did too. We both competed at the same rodeos. Over the weekend she told us that she was going to be giving a speech and we are going to miss it. We were all sad when we heard this, but she told me that she will try and watch me graduate. Well we all are going to be graduating that is all that matures.

Senior Year Coming to an End

My time at Holbrook High School is coming to an end. I have been going to school here in Holbrook for a very long time. I have grown up here with my family. I wanted to go to school here because my mom, her brothers, and sister went here. While in Holbrook, I have participated in many sports. I have done sports for the Jr. High and High School. At the Jr. High I did football, wrestling, and track. I did not do basketball though. I did that all three years. At the high school I did all the sports all four years with no break between the sports. I was in football, wrestling, and track.

My time at the Jr. High went by fast. I got to meet many new people to call my friends. With my sports I also meet more people. In football, I was once told that with the first practice I was not scared to go up against the 8th graders I wanted to show the coach I was tough.  The best thing I remember was my 8th grade year in football we got the White Mountain Section Co-Champions. In wrestling, I did not know what I was doing tell later on. I was not the best, but I worked hard. It paid off later on because when I made varsity I started placing at tournaments. I even took 4th at the White Mountain League tournament when I was wrestling people ten pounds heavier than me. In track I never made it very far, but I just liked to do sports.

At the High School I have accomplished many awards for sports. When I played football I was on the freshman team and I was also on JV my freshman year. Next year, I was on JV and Varsity. My junior and senior year I only played Varsity. When I was a junior I made 1st team regional offence lineman.  This year I made All-Section Second Team for football I made it for defense lineman and long snapper. In wrestling I was on JV tell my junior and senior year. When I was a junior I placed at a few tournaments and I won sectionals. My senior year I place at tournaments and won sectionals once again. I am a two time sectional winner and I am very proud of that even though I did not place at state. My last sport track, I did run when I was a young, but then I stopped after awhile. Now, I just throw I have not come close of making it to state, but I hope I could. I have already finished two of three of my sports for the high school. My track season is coming closer and closer to being over as well. Soon, I will no longer be playing for Holbrook I am done. I had a great time playing for Holbrook it was the best four years of my life. Even though we knew we would not win I did not care I just had fun playing with my fellow teammates.

Rodeo

I did not have much that happened over the week that reminds me of something big from the past, but one little event did. Over the weekend I had a great time traveling. I went to Leupp to watch my sister play in a basketball tournament and went to Ganado to help my cousin with the rodeo she was putting on. The rodeo I went to was really fun. I missed the rodeo life. I did not compete, but I helped out n got to see some of my friends and family performed. I was glad to see everyone and some people were happy to see me again.

I was no that very happy to go to the rodeo, but when I got there I had a great time. I did not care if I was dressed western. Usually, I am not that happy wearing the whole western outfit.  I was just really happy to have seen a great show my cousin put on. When at the rodeo I remembered when I rode at Ganado. It was a couple of years and I was in two events. I was in steer riding and pee wee bullriding. I did not place in steer riding, but I did place in pee wee bulls. I laugh at it because I thought I would be placing in steer riding and not pee wee bulls. So I was just happy to help out and meet up with old friends.

Riding to Fast

Over the weekend was Easter got to send time with my family and got to hang out at my grandpa’s place out on the reservation.  My mom, little brother, and me headed to my Grandpa’s place Friday and spent the night twice. Well we had our Easter on Saturday, so we would not have too much to clean up on Sunday. It was not going to be a big Easter. It was just my Uncle Ron and Nick, my auntie, mom, little sister, little brother, and of course my Grandpa.

We had a blast out there. My grandpa has a four wheeler out there so we were driving it around. After awhile, we started racing seeing who can get the fastest time on it. We went around and the person who had the fasts time was my little brother. When I was not driving I was thinking about old memories.

One memory I remember was racing for the fastest time. It was when I was around the age of six years old. My cousin and I were the ones racing on a scooter down a hill on a sidewalk with sharp corners. My cousin went first he had a good time. I told him, “I can bet that easy.” I was going down so fast that when I turned corners I almost fell off. After, a couple of turns I went to fast and went flying off the scooter. I landed on my left arm funny and it hurt badly. I had to go to the hospital and had to get a cast because I had fractured it. So riding the atv reminded me of that which I kind of scared to go to fast, but I got over it and was driving crazy again.

My Scar

Behind every scar there is a story. I have a scare on my left forearm. It is noticeable for people to see I do not try to hind it. I got the scar when I was in 5th grade. It all happened out on the reservation at my grandpa’s house one weekend. My family and I were branding his calves so we would know which ones were his. When we finished we had an idea to practice riding on his calves because our rodeo season was coming up. We would need all the practice we could get.
So we loaded my grandpas stock up in the bucking shut he had at the arena. We planned on taking turns until we got tired or something.  I was going to be the second or third one to go. My cousins would go first then it would be my turn. They got like the little calves when it was my turn I just had to have a big one.

Well, I got up on the chute and started to lower myself down onto the calf. I was thinking to myself, “Everything is going to be okay.” One of my uncles was pulling my rope and another was holding on to me just in case. I called for the gate and my auntie opened the gate. I was doing well the all of a sudden I fell off. I thought it was over, but it was just beginning.

My hand was still caught up in the rope. I was being dragged by the calf. I was crying so hard that I could not really see clearly. I tried to stand up to get my hand free, but I could not. My family all helped me get untied. When it was over my left arm was all bloody. I was wearing a short sleeve shirt so it just cut up my skin.

My mom and auntie looked at it said, “It is bad were going to have to take him to the hospital.” I did not want to go I hate the hospital, but my mom made me. The closes hospital was Chinles.  I was still crying on the way to the hospital and my arm was wrapped up with one of my old shirts.

When we got there I was so scared did not know what to do. When they called my name and the doctor looked at it he said that I would need to get some stitches. When it was all over I had to get fifteen stitches. I had to go to school the next day with my arm like this I told myself. I was nervous because I would have to tell everyone and I did not know how they would react.  Well, that is how I got my scar I still have it and if you really look at it you can count little small lines where the stitches were at.
